Tiger's Escape at Zoo

Another tragic event relating to animals:

***************

SAN FRANCISCO, California (CNN) -- Investigators on Wednesday will try to determine how a Siberian tiger escaped from her enclosure at the San Francisco Zoo the day before, killing one zoo visitor and mauling two others.

***************

While the events that took place last night are no laughing matter (heartfelt sympathies to the affected families) you gotta wonder what makes these animals go crazy on us humans.

Could it be the fact that they are caged up and made to roll out on cue to perform for us mindless zoo patrons who seem to get enjoyment out of looking at a trapped animal. Maybe they were tired of being taunted and humiliated by folks.

Now i am not some militant PETA activist, no tree hugger or super vegan-type. I have had my fair share of school field trips to the zoo, and have taken my kids as well, but we, as the "superior species" must realize that when all is said is done, its survival of the fittest and if that tiger happens to get free, those animal instincts are going to kick in. Its not animal instincts, thats survival. For some reason, that tiger felt threatened, and though her death was necessary to prevent further loss of life, you cant really blame the tiger.

When referring to the tiger attack on Sigfried and Roy, Chris Rock said it best, "That tiger didnt go crazy. That tiger went tiger". Plain and simple. These are animals who dont have the ability to pull up to McDonalds to eat, they cant go to the local Shop Rite and grab a pack of Gordon's Fish Sticks. I dont know why the tiger attacked, but she must have felt that was her only option.
If we are going to keep containing animals in zoos, we need ensure that all safety measures are in place and that in the event of an escape, an immediate and adequate response can be initiated.

But then you have those folks that just have to f*** with the animals. You know the type. Jackasses that think its funny to throw shit at the elephants, that bang on shark tanks, that moon the baboons. For them, I dont have a problem with an occasional mauling, not to the point of death, but a sort of wake up call.

I was in Florida a few years back. There was a news story about a man at Sea World who was constantly wondering around the KILLER whale tank. When he was questioned by the park authorities, he said the whales were talking to him. Now anyone with common sense could clearly see this man was a few fries short of a happy meal. A couple of days later, they found his ass floating in the tank....butt ass naked!!!

There are some crazy people in this world so lets not put all the blame on the caged animals. Imagine if you were put on display and you somehow found your way free. You may kill too.

....but I could be wrong.

I agree. Sad as this is for the humans and their families, the way we treat "lesser species" is shameful. Personally, I'm not so sure why we think they're "lesser." I've met lots of animals with better hearts than most people I know.
