Nasir Jones is either a genius, a jackass, or just looking for a headline..and if i am writing about it, i guess he got it!!!
I think he is just looking for publicity, because he says "songs are crazier than the title".
So what happens when Billy from suburbs goes to his local Sam Goody's and wants to cop the new Nas album.
Does he ask for it by name?
Does he say "I want N-word, by Nas"
I think this stunt by Nas is going to give a lot of folks in white america the impression that they can somehow use this word freely when referring to the album. I see black-eyes in the future of most.
He says his intent is to "take the sting" out of the word, but is that the right way to do it?
The only way to take the sting off of it, in my opinion, is to stop using it.
I am guilty of using it, especially around the house and when with my friends. But that doesnt make it right.
Some defenders of the word say it is used as a term of endearment for a good friend, which is true.
"Thats my nucka" is common.
And lets face it, whether they say N-word, or use it outright, everybody says it. There is too much taboo built around the word now as it is. The NAACP buried it a few months ago. Not sure what the point of that was. But you still hear it on the news and tv and the radio.
D.L. Hughley said "Show me a white man that has never said n*gga, and i will show you an infant".
They all have said it.
The thing we should be concerned with is how the word is used.
People say monkey a million times a day, but when Howard Cosell called Art Monk a monkey on Monday Night Football, he was thrown off the air, even though he never meant anything racial behind it.
Whether you want to use the word or not is totally up to you. My only advice to you, black or white, is to be prepared to deal with the consequences.
...but i could be wrong.
