Diver dies from Shark Bite

Where is the value of life???

WEST PALM BEACH, Florida (AP) -- An Austrian tourist died Monday after being bitten by a shark while diving near the Bahamas in waters that had been baited with bloody fish parts to attract the predators.

Markus Groh, 49, a Vienna lawyer and diving enthusiast, was on a commercial dive trip Sunday when he was bitten about 50 miles off the coast of Fort Lauderdale, said Karlick Arthur, Austrian consul general in Miami, Florida.

I always start off by saying something to the effect of "This is a tragic event..." or " I dont want to sound cold..." or some sort of bullshit safety net to keep from sounding like an insensitive bastard when it comes to the loss of human life.

I am going to be honest.....

When i read that article, i started laughing. Seriously.

Not that i find the death of someone humorous. Not at all.

What i found to be the sorta "joke of the day" was the fact this man went looking for death....and he found it.

Here is how the website of the company describes the excursion:
"Consequently, there will be food in the water at the same time as the divers. Please be aware that these are not 'cage' dives, they are open water experiences."

How is a shark to distinguish between food and diver? Its all one big buffet to them. When will people realize that sharks are not to be played with. Why in the hell would someone purposely swim in the open seas with bloody remain of fish all around them just to attract sharks? I can 'almost' understand doing it if you are in the safety of a cage, but if you want to fore go the cage and mingle with sharks while they eat, then you deserve to be bitten...over and over and over.

So as I said at the beginning, where is the value of life? Was Mr. Groh such a thrill seeker that he wanted to see how close to death he could get? Did he think just because he is higher up on the food chain (pun emphatically intended!!) that he could escape the literal Jaws of death?

What drives people to want to taunt death? Life has more to offer than constantly gambling with it.

So in response to Markus Groh getting killed by a shark, I say.....who cares? He was ready to die.

....but i could be wrong.

And to add insult to injury, i give you what may have been a recreation of the event:
