Reality TV aint Reality

Reality TV aint reality

For those of you that bothered to read Post the First, my stance on reality TV is that it strays 'away from any reality you and i may be accustomed to having' even though i am guilty of having a few shows set to record on a weekly basis.

With that being said, i bring your attention to this

There is some show on A&E called 'intervention' which is show about addiction.

Now i have never watched this show, but they were talking about this chick swerving all over the road as the camera taped it. Now my question is, if she had hit someone or drive off a bridge, would the producers of Intervention be held somewhat responsible? They knew what she was doing and didn't alert the authorities.

Which leads me to think that it probably didn't happen like that. Maybe they stopped her from driving, but to make the show watchable they let some nobody working behind the camera jump in and play the part of drunk driver..just for ratings.

Shows that are labeled "reality" are so far from it, its ridiculous.

When MTV (which really should change their name since i cant seem to find any music videos) first aired "the real world" i gave them a thumbs up. It was reality. Regular ordinary folks living their lives. I didn't really start watching until Season 3. They had a guy on their that had AIDS and they followed him around as he dealt with that. Another guy with hygiene issues. A couple of mental cases. It was basically folks from the area all living together and one the guys just happened to bring his camera along and taped everything.

Now look at "The real World". Its all about drinking fighting & F**king...most of the times in that order. Its not real. Who acts like that??

Then they always stick 1, maybe 2 Blacks on the show, just to meet some type of affirmative action quota. Those brothers (or sisters) always have tempers, are always the focus of some type of drama that gets blown way out of proportion (especially if race is involved). And they are generally made to look like buffoons. Every week people tune in to see what Tyquan or Lashonda are going to do to stir up drama. Its BS, but its good TV. I think Dave Chappelle put it best. Lets put one average white guy in a house with 7-8 Blacks. Now i would LOVE to see that.

Then you have reality shows that are no where near reality. I love NY, Flavor of Love, The Bachelor, Survivor, etc. Game Shows. That's all. And not even good ones. Out of the 'love' type reality shows, how many times do you hear about the couple staying together for longer than a year?

That's what i thought.

I watched both seasons of Flavor of Love (just because i couldn't believe that women that fine would fight over a burnt booger like that) and after New York got dumped for the second time, I called BS. I knew they were setting her up for her own show. I even guessed the title as she was walking out the door. A few months later, 'I LOVE NEW YORK". And now come to find out, they are making a 2nd season of that. I bet she gets dumped again.

Then you got the new BET joint, Hell Date. They couldn't even stretch that out for a full 15min.

For those of you that haven't seen it, here is the premise. They take some average run of the mill schmo and set him up on a blind date with an actor playing the part of someone who should be in a mental hospital. They take the un-suspecting dater around town and slowly introduce the personality quirks of his dream girl(boy). Each segment (approx 15min long) ends with the 'head-case' completely wigging out and then, all of a sudden, a MIDGET dressed in a devil suit jumps from behind a wall to reveal the prank.

I watched the first 3 or 30 episodes, but it got a point where each and every (and i mean EVERY) episode was predictable. No originality whatsoever.

Its all entertainment. A break from reality. And the airwaves are full of it.

Even 'real' reality shows like Cops (which i love), are watered down in my opinion. Those officers know they are being taped and are on their best behavior while the cameras are rolling.

But anyway..that's all i have to say about reality TV. Am i gonna keep watching?? hell yeah.

That's all that's on the tube now.

God forbid i actually pick up a book!!!

One show, The Biggest Loser, really applies to the American TV viewer, because that's what we really are...

How's that for reality???
