In rememberance
On the 6th anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11/01, I hope that we all take time out to remember those that lost their lives on that horrible day. Who would have thought that one event would have such a long lasting effect on everyone's lives?
Remember being able to walk your loved ones all the way to the gate at the airport to get those last minute good byes? Remember your only real worry when flying was whether you would land on time? Remember when Iraq was a place in the middle east that we stomped back in the early 90's?
After 9/11, our whole world changed. We started questioning everything, and everybody. No one felt safe anymore. The media was constantly bombarding us with news of terror warnings and suicide bombers and the killing of our soldiers in a war built on lies. Scarring the sh!t out of us on a daily basis.
We lost our innocence 6years ago and we can never get it back. Terrorism used to be something that happened in other countries, not ours. Who would have imagined that someone would take a mode of transportation and turn it into a weapon. A weapon that is still claiming lives.
9/11 was used by the current administration to fuel the idea of a war with Iraq. We were told of al Qaida meetings with Saddam & weapons of mass destruction but our rush to judgement is still costing lives. We were so emotional behind 9/11, we wanted someone to pay, and even though we KNEW who to blame, that wasn't enough. It was a thirst for blood. We wanted others to suffer as we suffered, but was that right? I don't think so. Now everyone is withdrawing previous statements. Hilary Clinton said if she had all the facts back in 2003, she would have never voted for the attacks on Iraq. Well excuse me, but isn't that what you got elected for? Examine the facts (all of them) and them cast your vote. I realize we all reacted on the "intelligence" reports that were provided and i can see why it may have looked like there was a cause for concern. But Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11
I never supported the war in Iraq. I realize that may sound hypocritical, since I went to Iraq as a contractor, but one has nothing to do with the other. Its like saying "if i don't support the war, then i don't support the troops fighting" which is bullsh!t. Speaking as a former member of the military, when i spoke to a recruiter, my being called into battle was never brought up. There was no mention of a possible war. And i know a good percentage of those that enlist, do so for a better opportunity in their lives. The gung-ho, fight-or-die mentality is not what makes up the Army of One today. Most of the enlistees are from rural, or urban neighborhoods who want an education. I was one.
I don't know. it just seems like the people who should care about troop deaths, really don't. I would like to see them come home. If al Qaida builds up in Iraq, lets make sure our country is safe and strong enough to protect it from them.
I could be wrong....
Once again i have drifted off topic.
Today is about those that lost their lives on 9/11. Take time out to pray for their families, those they left behind. And pray that one day we can all learn to be tolerant of each other.
